How many drains did any of you have with abdominoplasty with the vertical incision? How long did they have to stay in? Is it when they stop putting out a certain amount of fluid? I had my tt w/ vert surgery last Thurs, 11/5. I have 4 drains & just wondering how long they will be with me? Thanks, Diane __________________

Diane, You had Dr DiNick, right?.. I too had 4 drains, got out 3 the first time I went for a post op appt.. it was like 8 days post op.. Then the 4th one a week later.. They need to have less that 30 cc a day draining..... It is important that he not take out the drains before they are ready.. You don't want that fluid not being able to get out if it needs too.. Your pain pump is probably almost ready to come out.. if you don't have it out already..
How are you feeling? If you have any questions feel free to post here or email me at bowshermj@hotmail.com
Did you end up getting the butt lift too?? I know you said he had suggested it for you?? I had the abdominoplasty and vertical.. then 3 weeks later the breast reduction. I wish I knew just what BCBS would pay for and what it doesn't.
I have decided it is very addicting.. you can exercise til you are dead and not accomplish what Dr DiNicks skillful hands can do in a few hours..

I had Dr Hing and woke up with 3 drains. He took out the 2 the 1st week and the last one once I was down to less then 30 cc's. ( 2 weeks post op) So I would think it really depends on how fast you stop draining. Good Luck and keep us posted __________________ Cindy

Yes, I had Dr DiNick. He is awesome! I started to take out the pain pump yesterday & after pulling out 1 of the catheter tubes, I passed out. Luckily my husband was right there & caught me, but scared the begibees out of him. I didn't realize I was supposed to be lying down to remove. Things like that don't usually bother me, so I was very surprised it happened since it did not hurt at all. Dick called Dr DiNick & now I have to make an appt for him to take out the 2nd tube. Dick would not even let me take a shower after that He washed me up & laundered my garment, then helped me get it back on after I had a little nap. Later in the day he washed my hair. I think they need to give you a lesson in getting the compression garment back on the first time. It took us about 30 minutes! First backwards, second wrong side out & third time, we finally go it! lol I'm sure in a few days/weeks that will be a source of a good laugh! __________________

My husband took mine out without incident.. But I too had a couple pass-out adventures.. The first one day I had an appt to see Dr DiNick... so my husband had taken the day off to take me.. I took my shower in the morning instead of the afternoon.. don't' know why that changed anything...but I was done with the shower.. he was putting the garment back on me.. and out I went..
Then one time at Dr DiNicks office.. not sure why that day.. but I almost passed out again.....
I got so that I only undid one side of the garment and just stepped in it.. That was easier for me...
I am glad you have a great husband for a support system, I know mine did alot for me those first few weeks...
Feel better, and don't try and do too much..

Julie, Thanks for the reply....I am taking it pretty easy, but my rear is getting tired of sitting. I have slept in the recliner every night so far, so maybe tonight I will try the bed. Just don't think I can get out of it without help & hate to wake up hubby when he has to go to work the next day.
I don't recall ever passing out before in my life, so it really scared him, he thought I had a heart attack or something. Was trying to get me to the floor so he could call 911 when I started coming around. So he call Dr DiNick's cell instead. I called the office this morning to get an appt but they haven't called me back yet.
I will try to only undo one side of the garment next time......seems that would be easier.
