Reply with quote | #17 | Hi All!!!
I am finally up to getting online and updating everyone, surgery went very well and I look like alien with the drain tubes.. ended up with four.. that is because I was put on blood thinner as a precaution from past history. I was let go saturday around noon to go home. My husband never made it to hospital..lol We ended up meeting at home, he got home just before I did. I am sore with pain of course but it was well worth it. My first checkup up will be this coming saturday with Dr. DiNick.
I think I am a wimp when it comes to pain but it is getting better slowly. Seems like my vertical incision bothers me more that the hip to hip incision. Accept just above the pubic bone, that seems to bother me a lot too.
When I finally got to take the compression garment off on monday, that was heaven!! Shower YAY!
Other than that I think my hubby is a little grossed out by the incisions and the drain tubes. He just looks at me when I have to take medications. Like what are you taking now?
I am glad it is done but the healing part is the hardest cause you can't do the things you are use to doing every day. So that has been a challenge for me.
Ok I think that is it for now.. just wanted to let you know what was going on.
Going to take a nap... Take care

Reply with quote | #18 | I'm so glad you're home and it sounds like you're doing well! My husband will steer clear of my incisions and tubes when the time comes -- even though he was a medic in the Army and served in the Gulf War when he saw MUCH WORSE stuff, seeing me like that would totally gross him out! LOL!
I have my second BCBS-required PCP visit tomorrow, and I'm hoping that Barix submits my paperwork before Christmas. I'd like to be exactly where you are SOON!

Terri, I am so glad you are doing well, and let us know how you are doing. Your going to love your new tummy...in a few weeks anyway. You said you got stuck in your bed I had that happen in the recliner. I woke and could not move at all. I had to cry/say yell Help me Mike untill he work up....LOL it's funny now but was pretty scary that night. Anyway heal up fast. __________________ Cindy

Reply with quote | #20 | Hi
Yea it was funny.. my dogs thought I was playing hide and seek with them when I was trying to get out of bed.. but I did get stuck in recliner too.. just took a pill until I could move. lol Hubby's time schedule is off from being in india.. want him to get his rest as much as he can. So I didn't yell for him just sat there till I didn't feel any more pain..
I get to go a couple of hours tonight to wash garment again.. it felt good to air on my skin. I feel like this thing is bunching up and sliding down. I check it and it is right where it is suppose to be.. It is the SQEEEZING feeling.. can't wait to not have to wear it anymore but I was told 6 weeks.
Oh yea! not much to brag about this and I am sure there are more of you out there that will lose alot more skin than I did but I lost 5 lbs of skin and have 3 to 4 hundred stitches, I was shocked on how much and the stitches. I thought for certain it would be hardly any but all the same I glad I did it all the surgeries and the skin I lost was more above the belt line for me. Next surgery will be Breast lift and possibly inner thigh and butt liposucion..(Butt excerizes aren't working for me ..lol ) all cosmedic of course.
Thanks for the support I am hoping the pain goes away!!! soon!!!

Reply with quote | #21 | Teri, Chin up, I promise it will get better!!! The first couple days are the worst.. and then every day it will get progressively better. Dr DiNick did my abdominoplasty and vertical on September 19th, and I would say I am 95% healed.. no pain from that.. I had my breast reduction 4 weeks ago today on October 9th, that was and is still a little more tender.. and I think that's because I have.. breasts.. up high where I never had breasts before...
Do you have stitches on the outside where you can see them??? That would have freaked me out.. My incisions were just all covered with glue and you couldn't actually see much in the way of stitches.. I would not have done well with seeing 400 stitches..
Plastic surgery I have decided is very addicting.. I already went in yesterday and changed some money around so that I could pay for either a face fixing.. (well okay I can hope for miracles) or a bottom lift.. I can see now where that would make a huge difference.. But won't do anything more til spring or summer now..
Right now though I am just concentrating on getting my strength back. I am going to go back to work on Monday on a restricted basis.. just doing some desk work... I am kinda getting nervous about that.. but I need to be productive somehow..
You will get used to the girdle to the point where you feel like you need it on.. least that's how I was.. Just in the past week or two was I finally told not to wear it anymore.. it took some getting used to.. that I didn't fear all my guts were just gonna spill out.. but after a day or of not wearing it.. all was Great!!
If you have any questions or need any moral support you can even email if you want.. bowshermj@hotmail.com. I am a huge supporter of Dr DiNick and think is just wonderful and love how he treats his patients..
Take care.. and speedy healing

Reply with quote | #22 | Terri, So GREAT to hear from you! I am so glad you were able to post. Is your husband only home for a vacation from India or home for good? Thank you for all of the info! Thanks for all the great info from you, too, Julie! This is very helpful as others of us look toward having our extra skin fixed too!

Reply with quote | #23 | Hi All..
Sorry I haven't been on much been very tired and just sleeping alot between the walking around in my house. I have broke out of prison (the house) a couple of times with my friend to go to Walmart.. it was fun.. for once I had an excuse to use one of those electric carts..lol.. had a lot of stares but oh well.. it's better than tiring myself out really fast.
I go see Doc this morning at 8am.. found a lump in vertical incision I am worried it might be a hernia, I am having a lot of pain with it so I call Doc on cell so he got me in at barix clinic this am. To check it out to make sure. I am hoping he takes out the rest of the tube. they are below 30cc.
I also called Robbie cause my tummy was hard below belly button she said to massage to promote circulation and blood flow to the area. I have also been massaging the incision to break down scar tissue.
My husband is home for one more week then back to work for him.. bummer.. but he was trying to help but all he could to do was give me a shot. I did the rest it seem to work faster gettting garment on and off. I seem to get tired very quickly these days so I called Dr. DiNicks office and talked to Mary she is a "nut" so I am back on iron, and b12 again. She said to take those pills with OJ it will help absorb the vitiamins better. She also said to stay away to from dairy products temporary until I get my strength back. I didn't know that, good thing to know. I just seem to look very pale and when I get tired my face turns white. so it was a concern cause alot of my friends were questioning it. Glad to to know that there are people in his office to answer all the questions I have.
Ok will keep you up to date..
Take care all

Reply with quote | #24 | Teri, I hope you get feeling better soon..
I had my abdominoplasty on 9/17 and breast reduction on 10/9 and I too keep being told that I look gray? I know these are huge huge surgeries to out bodies.. and the incisions themselves first look like science projects but they get better..
I have been thinking about buying a one piece bathing suit and just stopping by the tanner (ok I know I am opening up a whole can of worms with that statement) but just enough to get a little color.. I usually go only once every couple weeks in the summer.. but I would like a little color.
Hope the vitamins help??? I have upped mine to try and get rid of the creepy feeling I have been having. Last night I slept again most all night.. so that was good..
I am going back to work in a limited capacity on Monday and hope that will help with my sleeping situation.
Hope you get feeling better soon..

Reply with quote | #25 | Hi Julie,
Yes I know what you mean about going to the tanning booth.. just to get some color back would be nice..lol
Dr. DiNick took out 2 tubes this past saturday and OMG!!! did that hurt I almost passed out...I did my best not to say a swear word but it came out.. we had a good chuckle about that. So I am taking pain meds again, those two were the ones that hurt the most. Walking slow again.. just when I was making progress.. oh well. I only have one more tube to go, hopefully that will come out next week. And the bump I found is scar tissue.. Doc said to keep an eye on it and massage.
That's it for now Gotta go eat

Reply with quote | #27 | Hi Terri, Glad to hear you are doing well. I had my abdominoplasty w/ vertical on 11/5, so just a week after you. I saw Dr DiNick yesterday & he took out 3rd drain...I still have 1 left, & with Thanksgiving coming up I don't go back until Wed, 12/3. I saw your post about massaging incisions. It seems too soon to do that, but I have heard it really helps with scaring. At what point in time did they tell you to start massaging incisions? I really haven't touched much, other than putting on antiseptic cream/salve. Any suggestions? Also what level of activity are you at? Vacuuming? ~~Diane

Reply with quote | #28 | Hi Diane,
I actually call his office and talked to Robbie and asked about tummy being really hard.. she told me to massage the area and scar when it is healed.. That was about 2 weeks after surgery. I have lifting about 3lbs right now.. I was told not to rush into lifting or pushing heavy items.
I am three weeks all tubes are out now and it is wonderful not being an alien anymore...lol ( my joke ) for all the tubes. It is very nice not to have the tubes and bag to contend with now. I feel like I can shower normal now and get dressed faster now. Although my energy level is way down.. I get wiped out pretty fast so I do sleep as much as I can get.
I got the ok to start using the coconut lotion with vitamin E .. it will help with the scarring.
My next appt with Dr DiNick is Dec 23rd. for a check up.
Hope that helps!! Congrats on your surgery!

Reply with quote | #29 | Hi Teri, glad you are doing well.. I went and saw Dr DiNick last week and I am going to have a revision to my tummy tuck in probably March.. Its a spot that some fluid escaped from causing an actual hole in me down where the T is the incision.. now its a big hard spot.. he doesn't like how it looks so he said in March he would fix it. I am looking to also have some work on my face.. go back and forth between eyelids and neck.. gotta talk more to Dr DiNick about it when I see him in January..
I have read the the eyelids are the thing to do if you want a more youthful look, and even if you have a turkey neck... with pretty youthful eyes no one will notice.. anyone else have any information about this..
