Reply with quote | #1 | This is weird, I know, but I have to ask someone. About 4-5 days after my surgery I went through this itchy spell. OMG, everything was itchy and of course, mostly my stomach around all the incisions. That led to my now problem which is itchy underarms. Weird huh? I have changed my anti-perspirant 3 times and they are still driving me crazy. I've bought Secret, then Almay hypo-allergenic and now I switched back to what I originally used which is Lady Speed Stick. I've used that for years. I've been using Gold Bond Medicated powder to relieve the discomfort too but nothing is working. Is this an after surgery thing? Anyone else go through this?

Reply with quote | #2 | First of all, take a benedryl.
Second off, did you use a lot of morphine in the hospital? It's a negative reaction commonly caused by morphine when it weens itself out of your system. I don't know if it's exactly your problem, but benedryl should help the itchyness anyways. Ask the surgeon if it's okay before you take it post op.

Tiff, the first day I took whatever they gave me. I had a pump too so I used that when I needed to. I didn't know that morphine had that side affect. That may be what it is. But I am over 4 weeks out and it seems like that should be gone by now, if that's what it is. If it's still like this when I see Dr. Custer on the 11th. of November I will ask him. Yeah definately ask him. But also. Another thing itchyness is caused by dry skin, it could be a mind allergy to ANYTHING and it can be healing of your body, like the skin pulling in if you are exercising lots to keep it tight. __________________

Hi Cindy. The steri-strips are long gone thank heavens. They might have been part of the problem altho they assured me that all tapes, etc. were non allergenic. The itchiness has subsided about 90% and I'm glad of that. I'm just wondering if the weather is causing my skin to be dry. At 59 these things happen. LOL As far as my underarms, things are better. I've been on the Lady Speed Stick for awhile now and I'm not having as much itchiness at all. Don't know whether it was all from surgery symptoms or just a fluke. Thanks for all your replies.
