I drink regular coffee 1 or 2 large cups a day at work at home only decafe as my hubby can not have any thing but decafe or he has seizures so no caffeine in our house. I am 9 months out and started reg coffee about 2-3 months ago no problem except this killer heartburn not sure what is doing that but time will tell or should I say Dr Custer will tell. __________________ consult date 1/7/09

Regular coffee stimulates the bowel. That was the reason they gave me. It's also a diuretic, so it would help dehydrate you rather than add fluid to your system. My wife and I met at Starbucks, we have a 4 year old son who's middle name is Maxwell, after the coffee (true story!) Couldn't call him Jacob Starbucks, could we??? LOL
I miss regular coffee too, but I the weight is just falling ff and I don't want to do anything to jeopardize my procedure.

You are plenty far out from surgery to enjoy regular coffee now! It is hard on a new pouch. But you are healed enough. I would still limit the amount because it can mess with blood sugar levels and many people get a false sense of hunger if they drink too much...so they eat more.
Also, if you drink coffee, be sure to get plenty of clear fluids like water, too. Sometimes coffee can lead to urinary tract infections...I get them if I don't drink enough regular clear fluids and fill up on too much coffee. __________________ Sleep Test #1 October 24

I look at six months as being the rule of thumb, Sue. You posted this back in November and somehow this has come forward now. What did you do? Did you drink your caffeinated coffee or not? What was the result, if you did? And when?
Christine: your post about pepsi is way back in November also so this is a rather late reply but I wanted to add my two cents on to this also. When I started drinking (diet) pop again or trying to, it was way too sweet for me; it was totally disgusting. I tried it a few times with the same result. Finally, it was okay and now I can drink it and lo and behold, some of my old cravings are back. Not so much a craving for a certain food as just wanting to eat, eat, eat! So, I've decided I need to back way off the pop scene as I'm sure that is the culprit....not that I drink that much and not that I ever drank very much. For my first six months, I drank nothing with a straw, drank nothing with meals (I have gotten very lax about this), drank no caffeine, drank nothing carbonated and drank very little juice. But once I let in that little devil, it is hard to not let it take control..................isn't that the story of our life? That's why it's tricky to not go back to the old style of living/eating. That's what someone said in this thread....was it Patt, I believe? "Been doing without just fine and the pounds are falling off, so I think I will just keep doing without." Why rock the boat?
So, for some of you who may be reading this who are early out of surgery, take those words to heed, when you are thinking of not doing something kosher. You did this fairly risky way of losing weight--you have gone through a lot to get to this place--don't sabotage yourself now.

I drink regular coffee and I will admit I drink alot of it, I get diarrea from to much coffee but you might not. I also had to have 12'' of small intestines removed, that part died from twisting up some how to the point that it lost the blood suply and that part had to be removed. |
